It depends on whats wrong with it
If it meets the description of what they sold you then you wont be able to do much
What are the reviews saying? can you name the apartments? can you amend?

A15. What if something goes wrong?

    1. If you have a query or complaint, please contact our Customer Service team. You can do this by accessing your Booking, or through our app, or through our Help Centre (where you’ll also find some useful FAQs). You can help us help you as quickly as possible - by providing:

    • your Booking confirmation number, your contact details, your PIN code (if you have one) and the email address you used when you made your Booking
    • a summary of the issue, including how you’d like us to help you
    • any supporting documents (bank statement, pictures, receipts, etc.)

    2. All queries and complaints are recorded, and the most urgent ones are treated as highest priority.

This is one quote, "The apartment needs some maintenance, furniture, paint, shower drain..."  I'm not overly concerned but just wanted to know where I stood.  Thanks for the above

Be careful of reviews. Occasionally they can be completely misleading.

Depends what you mean by 'not up to standard' - if it's infested with rats or a studio apartment instead of a 4 bed villa probably quite a lot you can do, if the shower is a bit weak and there's a strange smell coming from one of the drains probably nothing at all.

I don't put a lot of faith in online reviews - some people seem to have nothing better to do than moan about stuff when they go on holiday.

In reality if you go to a place and you don't like it then if it's a hotel they might be willing to change your room, but if it's an apartment like this then you are probably going to have to live with it. I imagine booking.com would probably only entertain complaints of real substandard accommodation (not fit to live in) or things being not as described (e.g. it claims to have a swimming pool but doesn't) otherwise all you will get is a 'sorry you didn't like it, feel free to leave a review' type response or maybe a 10% off your next booking as a goodwill gesture type thing.

In that case, I would imagine you can expect to get nothing from booking.com other than sympathy.

To be honest looking at the pics it does look a little tired but nothing major
If you have the option to amend i think that's your only recourse
The sort of things mentioned above are very hard to get a refund on as they are matters of opinion (needs repainting) and minor (shower drain)
I presume the fact its not top both swanky was reflected in the price - a recent review in Spanish says "good value for money" and there only seems to be one bad review i can see
Youre in a great location and some of the price will reflect that- if you cant cancel and they wont amend then don't lose sleep

I would note however that it doesn't seem to say it has air conditioning
if you are going july or august that could be unbearable - its over 40 degrees there right now
