Gawd no, I'd wait. Presume you'd chain free if both FTBs and haven't given notice in a rental or anything? Obviously keen to get in, but in the great scheme of things, what's another 2 or even 8 weeks?

If you get a temporary one fitted, I bet your problem then goes to the bottom of their pile.

Plus, I'd not really want one fitted onto presumably the same mechanism, only to have it taken off again and another one fitted.

Garage doors are in short supply. Im also aware of unfulfilled orders with 1 leading brand dating back the February.

It's a nightmare and doesn't seem to be getting any better.

That said the case I refer to above has been with full updates from the supplier so it's not a new issue BUT have had delivery promised multiple times to no avail. So your developer is probably in the same situation. They have known but they had probably been told it would be delivered by now.

The thing that got my back up was that the sales exec dropped in an email that the door has been on order since January!! Why was I not told earlier?
Perhaps the developer has only just been told that the delivery is delayed?
I doubt that they've done this just to annoy you.
I did think about this but honestly their comms since exchange (and as expected) has been poor.
I’ve been chilled until now, but need to move to get an address to get schools sorted etc.
Are you sure you need to move before getting schools sorted?  Might be worth checking directly with the school you want to move to.  The reason I say that is that I moved from South London to East Sussex and made the assumption I couldn't apply until after I'd moved as I would need proof of address, I was getting really stressed about this as as our move got delayed.  I rang the school and found out that they were pretty chilled about it, I had the school place sorted about 4 months before we finally got to move (also to a new build).

As for your decision, thats a tough one.  How desperately do you want to move and have you checked that your mortgage and solicitor would be ok if you went for a temporary door?  Our move took 10 months in the end and towards the end I would have been ready to risk it.

Most local authorities and schools will accept an exchanged contract as proof of intention of moving.

Is it a special fit door?

How many houses on the project?

When are the others due completion?

Why have they not prioritised your house?

How much to get an independent to come and fit, can they do it immediately upon completion?

If an independent can come and fit a door then I would seek a reduction on your purchase price to cover the cost + a management fee of 25% for your effort.

Should be easy enough to work that into a waiver.
Apparently all other houses are in the same position. 4 left to complete (including me).
I’ve asked if I could source the door and got a no, which I expected.

I'd be wary - not sure your mortgage provider would like it having no sign off - they might not even let the sale complete, or an insurance company cover youif anything was stored there etc. What are they asking you to sign exactly?
I’ve sought further clarity on the disclaimer. The sales exec is now off until Thursday.

This might be a great opportunity. Chances are the garage is useless to actually store a car in. Most new build ones are too narrow to actually open the doors to get out. So you would be better off having another room, which can be a study or kids room or another bedroom.

You could suggest they install a wall and window instead, and properly finish it.
    They wouldn’t agree to this

My concern is that I won’t be a priority once they get their money.
I’ve asked them to put in writing the exact delivery and fit date.

    😩
    They’ve been given a timeline of w/c 8th August.
I’m nervous that’ll be pushed back.
