Bamboo original owner
Options
Hi all,
There is an out of control bamboo issue between mine and neighbours property.
My neighbours garden has bamboo shoots everywhere in the patio, in the drainage, even popping out near the house and my side only extends to maybe 1 to 2 paving slabs as they were concreted down.

Is there a way to know where it started? The neighbour said it’s my house but they had lots on their side too, mine was ripped out my side and now theirs is growing back into mine. It’s all a bit of a mess!
Thanks

It's going to take digging down and inserting a barrier on the fence line if you don't want it.
Then poisoning the shoots on your side.
If you're neighbours are letting it run amuck you need to sort out your side sharpish.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

If you know you didn't plant it presumably it was there when you moved?
No way to tell unless one of you has a clump so it's obvious.
There are topical poisons that you paint on cut stems. It will kill all along the underground stem.
They should be used with extream caution, no one pregnant, not on skin etc.
To protect pets or wildlife tape over the treated stems.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

What if you could be virtually certain; where would that get you? This is a genuine question because the next move would probably involve your and their insurers and might get quite messy.I'm a practical person and knowing how long going down a legal route might take, I'd be inclined to start with a translocatable poison. I'd be happy to do the neighbours' side too if they were amenable. The people at Progreen are helpful when I ask abut pro chemicals. If the above didn't work -and with bamboo it might take repeat doses - or the neighbours weren't willing to have theirs treated, I'd build a physical barrier. It's a nuisance, but probably more certain than a legal challenge.2

Numerous applications of a strong systemic weedkiller to "your" shoots should not only kill yours but probably the neighbours offending shoots. It will take patience and the use of a professional weedkiller with adherence to the H&S aspects.1
