Blancmange - how to make at home

I was looking to buy the old fashioned blancmange powder. Haven't had it for years but fancy some. Two local supermarket web sites don't list.

Is it still available?

Does anyone know how to make it from scratch and what ingredients are required please.

I've not made it from scratch but was also unable to find any in local supermarkets at Christmas. Eventually I found some (Pearce Duff's) on ebay and you've reminded me to buy some more to keep in the larder 🙂

I only know one place where I can buy it and that's at Faversham,Kent, in a very nice farm shop there called Macnades. I usually buy several boxes when I visit my sis-in-law who lives near there. I haven't seen it in the big supermarkets for ages Pearce Duffs one usually come in boxes of four with different flavours Vanilla,Chocolate ,Raspberry and Strawberry. but I haven't been down there for a goodfew months so I don't know if they still sell it

Here's an alternative recipe - with lots of other berry recipes at the end. I don't think it's British but the end product sounds and looks very tasty indeed and ingredients seem to be easy to get hold of here.

As bouicca21 says, above, the packets are just flavoured cornflour - I don't rate them as they do taste rather powdery. Of course, it could have been the way I made it - but I prefer blancmange made from scratch. When and if I have the time!  :)

Edited as I forgot to add the link! Doh.

P.S. They sell packets of blancmange on amazon, too.

My mum used to make pink or chocolate custard with blancmange powder - pink to go over chocolate sponge, chocolate to go over icecream or sliced bananas.

That takes me back! Anyone else remember Home Ec lesson #1: evaporated milk + jelly = jelly mousse?
