Anyone else notice websites not liking particular browsers?

Not overly bothered as there's more than one way to skin a cat kind of thing.

Never used to have an issue with websites & then over time I started to. I put it down to digging my heels in over moving from Windows 7 & websites wanting me to be on a supported OS so I'd just use another browser.

Funnily, it was always a problem with FireFox (yes latest version) where using Chrome would fix it.

This morning I had to go on a medical website to fill in some details. Loaded up the site, clicked through to the next bit, then it came time to click "start" to begin filling forms out.

Wouldn't do a thing (on FireFox).

Restarted PC - same.

Opened Chrome - worked no problem.

Just thought it a little strange. Anyone with knowledge as to why?

Don't tell me I'm the only one experiencing this? lol.

It happens. The cause will be the website developers not checking things work in other browsers.

Ahh. You'd think they'd cover a FireFox base. Not like it's an unknown browser.

Suppose it's the way things are these days. Everyone just seems to assume you use Chrome because 'everyone else' does. All guides on how to do things with a phone assume you have an iPhone. You have to be like no sir, I'm from the dark side & then go to a dark corner to get your version of help.

It's pretty much the only reason I have Chrome installed. I don't particularly like it as a browser myself but hey ho not the end of the world.

I use Chrome but have had (rare) occasions when it didn't load a site so I use Edge to find out if Chrome is the problem.

Newer versions of Edge are Chromium-based (as is Chrome), so it's possible that an issue in Chrome may also apply in Edge.

Edit: it seems that someone took the hump with the OP (I presume).

I use a tablet running windows 8.1 and a laptop running Linux Mint. Both use up to date firefox, I often have strange problems on linux, currently some ebay pages have enormous black V's on them and the page is spread out massively or an item description is typed in a narrow band down the left of the screen. Logging in to the same sites and pages through windows there are no problems.
I suspect the problem is a mix of OS, browser and website incompatibility rather than just a browser issue.

I had a problem with Nationwide banking and Firefox, it will do most things but try to download statements and it logs off every time, tried it on Chrome and it works every time.

Does make you wonder about website admins what I was trying to do is not out of the ordinary.

    Interesting.

I always have a problem with the Easyjet site when using Google Chrome but no issues with it when using the newer version of Edge.

It's always better to have a couple of different browsers installed to mitigate the problems caused by differences in programming.

  • Yes I have problems with Firefox on certain websites which work perfectly well on Chrome or Edge.

Rightly or wrongly I have always put it down to adware blockers and admit to having 3 on Firefox (Ghostery, Malwarebytes and Adblocker Ultimate) which is probably total overkill

I've had forms to complete on line where it recommends using a particular browser, so they evidently don't fully test even the main few.
