Starling euro account to receive an euro transfer from Europe, anyone has experience?

Hi,

I am expecting a euro transfer into my starling euro account, which was sent from the Netherlands. It was sent a week ago from a dutch bank to my Starling euro account IBAN details. I am still waiting for the payment one week on. I checked with Starling and they said payment should normally take 1-3 days and they have no trace/record of receiving the payment. I have asked the payer to check with the sending bank, so still waiting to hear.

Just want to check if anyone has experienced similar issues in the past? and how long does a transfer nomrally take or I have to wait longer? I understand that UK is still in SEPA, so euro transfer should still be quite straightforward, but not sure if Brexit has changed anything. Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.

It much depends on the sending bank, but 1-3 days sounds reasonable. I regularly receive payments into my Starling Euro account. Standing orders arrive on the day scheduled, or the working day before if the scheduled day is a weekend. One-off payments arrive within 12-24 hours on working days. All the same as before Brexit. But as I said, it much depends on the sending bank, and also on when the sender initiates the payment. It could also be different from country to country. You have done the right thing by asking the sender to investigate. It's quite possible they made a mistake with the IBAN.

Thanks for sharing your experieince. It is definitely unusual then. The payment was sent on the 11th July (Monday), so it's been 7 days or at least five working days. Starling suspects that they may have sent the money through SWIFT instead. Will have to keep chasing and see what is going on.

In case anyone is reading this. I have finally received the payment, about a week after it was sent (sent on 11th and received in on 19th). Not sure if contacting both the sending (ING) and receiving bank (Starling) had anything to do with it.

I can suggest in the future if you're sending money to your UK account - always try to send it in GBP, this will speed up the transfer and would ensure the correspondent bank is UK based as well.

I am not convinced this is a good idea. Doing your own conversion is almost certainly a better deal than letting a bank doing it. As mentioned earlier, I am in regular receipt of Euros, mostly into my Starling Euro account, but at times also into my multi currency accounts at Wise and at Fineco. Payments are received within 12 - 24 hours without fail. If I want money instantly, the sender can pay a small amount for instant transfers, if offered by the bank.

The SEPA regs should apply - so I would have expected by the end of the next business day.

That said, now that Blighty is outside the EEA - it's unlikely to be enforceable as the sender bank is within the EEA and the recipient bank is located within Little England.
