Scottish Power not so smart meters - PAYG three month wait to change to credit...

Moved into a rented property and was unaware (as it turns out was the agent) that Scottish Power had switched the meter mode to PAYG - Saturday gone it ran out and I had a power cut! After 20 mins I thought to look at the meter to see that it was a power cut to find the out of credit message, managed to enable emergency credit.

2.5 hours on phone hold to SP and they never answered, chat just referred you back to the phone.

Today Monday got through explained I needed the smart meter to be changed back to 'normal' and not PAYG - to be told that they have to wait THREE MONTHS to do that?

!!!!!!? They changed it from metered to PAYG at the drop of a hat and yet cannot change it back for three months?
Spoke to agent and as above they were unaware so are contacting landlords to see if they did something.

They also said "you can easily pay on the app" NOPE been installed since I moved in and does not show anything on energy usage or meter readings etc.

ANY advice? I just want to be on billed payments by DD

Changing a meter from PAYG to credit can require a credit check, and if you've just moved in they might need to wait until other records are up to date before those checks complete successfully. Once they have it should typically take a few days for the meter to swap over. I'd give them another call in a few weeks to a month.
