Hi
I recently bought a laptop with Windows 10 on. Ive always used the free version of AVG, but with Windows Defender, so I need to install further anti-virus software?
Thanks

No, because Defender, despite the name, is AV software.You are of course free to use AVG if that's what you prefer.1

Thanks - yes. I suppose I was thinking whether Windows Defender is as comprehensive/as effective as AVG, McAfee etc... I was thinking about using a paid version of AV software. But if Windows Defender is just as good then thats saved me a few £.

The greatest security risk is the fleshy being operating the computer.
If you're a click-happy eejit who doesn't even think about what it is that is being clicked then perhaps a comprehensive security package may be of benefit. If you have a modicum of common sense then Windows Defender (with an occasional scan using the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware) should be enough.Jenni x3 -
already been discussed here;

You don't need AVG - just use Defender.1

And definitely don't try to use both. That will cause all sorts of problems.1

Usually if you install another AV application then Defender will be disabled (either by Windows or by the installation of the other app). So after installing AVG (or A N Other) you'd have to actively re-enable Defender to be able to use both.giraffe69 said:And definitely don't try to use both. That will cause all sorts of problems.

Not so apparently. If another av is installed Defender automatically shuts down. But you're right, any other two avs will conflict.giraffe69 said:And definitely don't try to use both. Last time I checked Defender link checking wasn't there. e.g. what happens when you click the link googl.co.uk ? (** at your own risk **).Jenni_D said:If you're a click-happy eejit who doesn't even think about what it is that is being clicked then
