Composite front door stuck

We had a composite front door fitted a few years ago. Whenever it’s hot weather we can’t open it from either side. Sometimes if we push hard when we are on the inside it will eventually open. Tonight we can’t open it at all. It’s one of those multi lock ones with a thumb turn on the inside and a long bar handle outside.

Has anyone got any idea how this can be fixed please?

  • Same problem here, for the past 2 years I've had to make sure my side gate has been unlocked so I can gain access to my property as I've not been able to open my front door in extreme heat.

Have you also got the multi locks on the edge? They just don’t seem to release properly.

Leave it until after the hot weather, then get someone to look at it. It might need receivers adjusting.

My father in law is a carpenter and has fitted a lot of these doors… it’s not the door that is the issue per se, rather the frame…if the frame in not secured properly into the brickwork at installation, then it can expand in hot weather and “pinch” the door… he recommends more fixings (screws) through the frame, into the brickwork.

It's the top of our door that gets stuck as this gets the most heat from the sun,  We've had the door tweaked a few times but the problem still occurs until today when surprisingly in this extreme heat the door opened easily.

This does make sense,  our frame, when it gets hot, does seem to protrude more at the top.

I have a problem with one door that the handle won't lift to facilitate locking when it is hot (as in not very) but works fine as it cools.  UK systems were not intended for anything over 22 degs.
