My fixed rate ends next month I’m currently on18 per kWh. SP are offering a new fixed at 49 per kWh. Increasing my dd from £90 to £262. Is this even legal

Its an offer, you don't have to accept, so its not illegal.
If its too much do nothing and stay on the price cap tariff.2 -
@Denise290964 You will get more responses if you post under Energy. You will find many similar concerns there.
If you are coming off a particularly good fix then you will be facing some big changes in charges. You may be better just letting your account roll onto the Standard Variable Tariff.
What is your actual annual consumption ? and are you in debt/credit ?
Have you had your £150 and did you credit that to your electricity or gas account?
Don't forget you have a further £400 to come
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi thanks for your response. Yeah I’m still finding my way around this. I thought that too for the standard. I haven’t received any payment I thought it was only if you’re on benefits0

The £150 is credited to your council tax bill in Scotland or credited to your bank / sent as a cheque in England, subject to meeting criteria, it's not dependent on someone receiving benefits.

Ah ok we have already received that reduction on our council tax bill. I’m presuming it’s the same thing. Thanks0

Why do you think it would be illegal?

Coming off a good fixed tariff is especially hurting you, but don't forget that others are paying the higher rates already no, and for some time.
The SVT was 21p until March and is now 28p (not taking into account regional differences).
The expected unit rate from October is currently 43.94p. Also you will see a huge increase in the daily stranding charge, it will most likely double for you.
The fixed tariff offered to you is not a good choice from what we know at the moment, SVT will be better for you, but my guess is still about £240 per month.1
