Is this quote right? Any opinions?

We decided to look into getting a solar system back at the end of 2020 but never took it any further than the quote stage. We are now again looking at getting an installation done. The system I’ve been quoted for is a 6.6kw and we have a quote also for a Tesla Powerwall. The demand for solar has increased and as we are all aware prices of everything have all risen.

Anyway, this is the system I’ve been quoted for

The PV quote comes in at £13,823 including the following

18 x Canadian Solar 380w panels
Solis 6kw Dual MPPT single phase with DC
On roof mounting system
Pigeon Protection
Emlite 1ph generation meter
Scaffolding included
peripherals included

I understand that there are labour costs and the company is based in the south east and I’m in the south west but looking at some of the wholesale prices this still seems perhaps a bit high? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Tesla Powerwall comes in at around £10,800 which seems in line with the pricing on the Tesla uk site.

Any opinions on the matter would be welcome

Complete rip off in my opinion - I'm having a slightly larger system with 19kW of batteries for roughly the same price as your PV only system.
Even in this climate they are edging their bets, go elsewhere even if you have to wait.
    PV total 19.8 kW system:
23 x 420W East/West split over two flat roof areas at 10 degrees inclination.
13 x 390W South spit over two flat roof areas at 5 to 20 degrees inclination.
6 x 390W south wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
7 x 390W West wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
    2 x 5 kW hybrid inverters
    4 x 9.5 kWh batteries (38 kWh total)

    Thank you for your opinion…

Prices vary but I found the panels, inverter, and pigeon, protection came to about 7.5k. I find it hard to believe that labour and all the extras cost another 6k.

I know there is going to be a markup from wholesale but come on!

Is your installer in the south west by any chance?

14k does seem a bit high, my friend recently had a quote for an 8kw system that came in at 13k.
That included scaffold on 2 sides of his home for an east west split.
Is there a reason you want a powerwall? There are cheaper alternatives.
4.3kwp JA panels, Huawei 3.68kw Hybrid inverter, Huawei 10kw Lunar 2000 battery, Myenergi eddi, South facing array with a 15 degree roof pitch, winter shade.

I’m a bit of a Tesla fan but I simply looked at the Powerwall because of the unlimited cycles and the largest capacity. I’m happy to be convinced otherwise that there are better option and equally durable alternatives

    thank you for you comment

They're based in Leeds - I'm sure there will be some alternatives more local to you.
I have a Tesla, but decided against the Powerwall on value for money - even though my quote were 8,750 for one and around 16,500 for two.

If you are looking for an installer in the south west, you could try https://www.iddea.co.uk/
They did an excellent job of my installation earlier this year and were reasonably priced.
However, I know they are extremely busy, so it might be difficult to even get a quote.
    6.4kWp (16 * 400Wp REC Alpha) facing ESE + 5kW Huawei inverter + 10kWh Huawei battery. Buckinghamshire.

  • Yeah, many installers I’ve contacted have a long lead time..

    thanks for the info

I've used these people in the past and have been very happy with them. However I do know that they have a huge backlog.www.leeds-solar.co.uk

Most important though is to get a few quotes to compare.
