4.2m is about the longest single length of laminate worktop you can get. Quartz, granite, and solid wood, probably shorter. With the appropriate tools & fixings, it is possible to get a virtually invisible joint as long as you don't have a bold pattern or pronounced grain.

Thanks everyone. Slight change of plan now, am considering removing a protruding part of a wall in the kitchen and will mean I will need a 5.2m straight piece of 600mm worktop. does that limit my options at all? Does any worktop material come in long (5m+) lengths, or what material is easiest for a fitter to join?
This is the reason I went for acrylic, I didn’t have the budget for granite etc and it wouldn’t suit my house type. I’m a carpenter by trade and fit a lot of kitchens this was my first time fitting this type of material but it’s almost impossible to see the join (my biggest concern) I think it’s easier to fit than standard worktops but I did my back in fitting so will say it’s a two man job.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'
We got a 4m length of iroko (plus a few shorter lengths) at this house and similar previously. The granite we bought at another house certainly wasn't available in 5m lengths.
