Cats in the 40 degree heatwave...

I'm worried about my 2 cats for tomorrow and Tuesday... what's best to do for them? Should I shut them in the house? The living room tends to not get too hot if I leep the blinds closed, but I have no idea how hot it will get in a 40 degree heatwave...
Should I just allow them to come and go as normal? I panic about them being overcome with heat outside somewhere!
Obviously I will keep lots of water around for them

Cats will find their own shade - keep their routine normal - keep that water bowl topped up.
One of mine will be in the middle of a flower bed , the other is sat in a bit of shady grass waiting for a passing mouse.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
I’ll be letting my old boy come and go as he pleases. He tends to find bits of shade to keep cool in. Strange thing is even in the heat he still likes to sit on my lap.
Plenty of water too of course. I think worrying is part of being a good pet-dad.27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 50 -
Mine is an indoor Princess and not that intelligent, so I get to see what she's up to.
If the lounge gets too hot from the sun streaming in, she takes herself off to a cooler one (bedroom). Goes back into the lounge a few hours later and if it's still too warm for her immediately turns round and goes back to bed.
I don't think you've anything to worry about, animals have a strong survival instinct.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -
Cats will probably cope better than anything else - they're smart.
My old boy used to like to curl up in the bathroom sink when it was hot.
Sometimes, he'd stretch out in the bath.
The bathroom didn't get any sun at all.
He knew where it was coolest.1 -
I find my 2 year old is coming in to lay on a tiled floor or to go into deep shade in garden. Plenty of water and wet food as and when she needs it. House is cool. She has freedom to choose.0

How do cats survive in Spain or Portugal ? Not all homes are air condition are they. We get 2 weeks of hot sun but Spain?

Our cat moves around the house as the sun goes over and the bedrooms get warmer/cooler. At the moment I can hear her snoring upstairs, the velux is open with the blind down and a nice breeze coming in so she is happy.0

Ours would pick their favourite cool spots - even the one that was a perennial heat seeker.
So bathroom sink (cold water running slowly please!), bathtub, cool tiled floors, in the shade outdoors, under large shrubs in the garden in a damp dimple of dirt.
And happy all of them to drink the manky water turning green in the watering can. None of this mountain spring water tosh for them!!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Cats (or people) from countries where the average temperature is less than half of what is being predicted for Monday and Tuesday are far more likely to have problems.1 -
