How much does money weigh?

Hi,

I've just wondered if any of you know how much money weighs? I have got one of those tins cans which I have been putting change in for a little while and promised myself i wouldn't open it until its full.

It weighs about 3lb and has a selection of silver a few pound coins and one £5 note (only because it got tore in half)

Do you think that it will be worth breaking my promise and opening it. Afterall fixing debt is better than keeping a little promise. Maybe I could make it into a trationa nd get a new tin each year.

Should I, shouldn't I. I think I may! oh its xciting.OH will tell me off but never mind!
One day, I AM going to be out of debt. I'm just not sure when.

No! I don't think you should open it until it's absolutely full - or set yourself a date, such as New Years Eve to open it, and start the new year with a new tin!

Hopefully there'll be loads in there you can throw at debt!

don't open it, and you won't be able to guess how much is in it as you would need to know the ratios between the coins put in and the weight of the tin inth first place lol
  • Im hoping that it will be about £40 but it all helps. My partners one weighs 6lb and thats 50p's and £1's and even a few notes. I'm sure he would realise if i swapped them!

  • I am going to empty all my money boxes on New year's eve and pay all the money I have to my loan.

sadly I am very excited by this!!:)
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Not a bloody clue I'm afraid! However I can tell you that paper money weighs a surprisingly large amount. I used to work in a bureau de change and every night we'd carry the sterling up to the big safe, and it's amazing what a bag with 70k in £20 notes would weigh, or a block of €20 (aka €20,000) does when you throw it across the room at someone (as my co-worker found out one day when I threw it a little too hard!

But yes, the advice given here is brilliant, don't do it!

  • Oh yes actually i used to work in a supermarket and at the end of the night we used to put the money in a basket on wheels as we were weaklings. Forgot about that!

I'm going to open it on the 01/01/2008.

If you decide to work out what it has in for it's weight, work it out from the lowest value coin, that way it won't disappoint. I weighed my £2 tin in August, which had £2 coins and a few notes, guessed at about £350, eventually cracked it open in October as we needed things for the house. Was over £1000 in there so I was VERY happy.
One day I might be more organised...........
