Annual leave reimbursement if off with covid... Rights??!

I was off last year in November with Covid... One of those days fell on a day that I had booked annual leave. I was told that I would get that back. It never happened. I've just queried it with HR and they have said too much time has lapsed so therefore not entitled to it back! Can they do this?! I cannot find anything online to back up my cause!
My annual leave year runs from January to January.
Any help, advise and hard fast evidence would be appreciated.
Thank you

Presumably you have a use it or lose it policy on holiday? Any ability to carry anything forward?
Why have you left it 9 months to bring it up again?2 -
Unless there is an arrangement to carry unused leave onto the next year it would have to be used in the same leave year i.e by January 22.0
