Collingwood insurance trying to charge fee for not renewing?

In my experience I've never come across insurance that charges for 12 months after 8 months by not allowing a refund after that date so I didn't check the small print on this occasion.
Similarly I'm not aware of having come across insurance that charges a cancellation fee and similarly insists that you cancel under circumstances when you no longer need the insurance and could just let it lapse since it is already invalid.
Clearly forgive me for being an ignorant moron then.0
