Was it cheaper to get married abroad?

It was for us but the holiday was already booked and paid for. My Dad has been made redundant and was semi -retiring having never been able to afford to take his family to Florida during his working life, he'd paid for the hol for him and Mum me and Mr S and my sis and b-i-l. We'd intended marrying the following year but a personal tragic reason had made us decide not to go ahead with that date. We asked my in-laws and MIL said she would fly to her relatives in a neighbouring country and come just for a night or so. On that basis we booked it only for MIL to not do what she'd said she would. I wish she'd spoke up at the time, that she couldn't afford it, didn't fancy it whatever. Instead we were left with a wedding that was booked and paid for abroad. We went ahead and a couple of DH's relatives did join us that lived in the neighbouring country.
We did have a Church blessing, reception in my IL's garden and evening do at a hired hall on our return for all those in the UK.
