Hi I recently had a letter from Argos telling me to contact a credit reference agency about a loan or something. (thought it was spam at the time so dismissed it) Has anyone else had a letter from Argos mentioning something similar?

I'd check your credit files for all 3 CRAs - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. It's a good idea to do this regularly anyway, but especially over the next few months just in case something funny is going on. In any case, make sure to check the actual data (not the score/rating) and make sure all your accounts are there. Additionally, there shouldn't be anything you don't recognise. If there is a fraudulent Argos account on your file, then you need to report it to Argos and Action Fraud and get it removed.

Companies usually do this when you have been turned down for credit.
I agree you should check your credit files and see if any applications for credit have been made in your name.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
