Hello,
Fellow BG Customers.
So as the titles states I am a British Gas customer, and currently there are no fixes being offered by them. With everything going on i extremely back and forth on what to do and i am just looking for an open discussion from others in my positions, so I am sure I am making the right choices.
I have recently been told a couple things and wanted to see how other British Gas customers have approached things:
1) Green Energy UK - This supplier has been advised to take a fix out with as they have no exit fees and offering a better rate than the October SVT rise, but also they have downsides of being ranked by ofgem in the "worst" category for direct debit dealing etc and also they are not subject to SVT caps. Has any fellow BG customers switched to them recently? - How did you find them? What was your thinking?
2) What have BG told you? - I called BG and was told they may have a 2 year fixed coming in august? Have you been told the same? Is it worth waiting for / doing? (you can find more info on another thread i did here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6371741/british-gas-customer-somewhat-at-a-loss-on-what-to-do
Simply i'm just trying to pick some similar brains out there, so any info apppreciated.
Thank you.

Not a BG customer but this springs to mind
If British gas are suggesting a new fixe is coming in August. One may assume they are waiting for the Ofgem announcement in August regarding the October price cap before releasing any more fixes.3 -
Fixed tariffs are changing by the day and the trend seems to be upwards, so if you are hoping that August will see cheaper tariffs I fear that you might be disappointed. CS team members are usually not told when tariffs are going to be changed. I suspect this is just a ploy to keep you on board.jefferson89 said:

Green Energy is one of three suppliers not subject to the Ofgem Cap as ALL its supplied energy comes from green renewable sources. That doesn't mean that you will get to use any of it if you switched to them!
Given that all monies held by suppliers are 100% protected by Ofgem, I wouldn't get overly concerned about Ofgem's views on DD management. I have had issues recently with one supplier that was listed by Ofgem as being one of the best.1 -
So the announcement from ofgem in august would mean what for British Gas in regards releasing more fixes?Mstty said:

It will be most likely be more expensive than the new SVT.
Also I can understand that you want to investigate a new supplier in detail, but as @[Deleted User] said, fixes just disappear suddenly. If I remember this deal was there already before the latest cap prediction last Friday, so I am surprised it has not been withdrawn yet.

I think that Mystic Meg is a bit busy at the moment trying to predict who might be our next Prime Minister.jefferson89 said:

Seriously, if you are worried then switch to a supplier that offers fixed tariffs with no exit fees. If it doesn't work out for you and energy prices fall by 50% you can then switch to a cheaper tariff or switch away.1 -
- British Gas has not been helpful with me,they said i owed £200 which i paid not realising it would be covered by my low usage and summer payments, they put my direct debits up to £160 from £75 i am on a standard variable they pressed to increase it to £220 a month for a fixed rate. I agreed to £120 a month but when i checked it had not even been written down, after trying to reason with several people over several days i have had to cancel my direct debits,i cannot cope with the way i am being treated.

So for anyone who was in my postion and somewhat back and forth, I have decided to fixed with GEUK. Currently as of today i was offered this by GEUK and also from britishgas

With GEUK i am being offered:
Electricity: 48.12p SC and 38.20p per kwh @ 1976 units = £930.46 yearly. / Gas: 31.31p SC and 11.75p per kwh @ 8000 units annual = £1054.25. Making it £165.40 per month.
I decided to just check my British Gas account and today I am being offered: Fixed Oct 23v1:
Electricity: 47.247p SC and 51.591p per kwh @ 1976 units = £1,191.89 yearly. / Gas: 29.292p SC and 15.593p per kwh @ 8000 units annual = £1,353.91. Making it £212.15per month.
So far so good with regards to the switch via their website. When you join them they tell you that your direct debit will be a variable rate direct debit.1
