Moving house (British Gas current supplier)

As we've been living with family for the past year, I haven't had to deal with any utility bills. In the past I would've looked for the best fixed rate for gas and eletricity. With the current state of the market, assuming that I am fine to stay on a standard variable rate, do I need to do anything? Or are all suppliers basically on the same cost per unit and standing charge as they are all at the capped amounts by the regulator?

On moving in you MUST contact the existing supplier (from the title BG I assume) give meter reads (take photos) and ask to go on the SVT  - refuse pressure to take a fix.

Get into the habit of reading that meter every month (even it is Smart) and check those bills when they come
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Yes thank you. I've always done the first bit (contact supplier and make sure have initial meter readings).
Noted on asking to go onto SVT - very helpful to know.
I guess it will save me some time trying to look around for other deals. One less thing for the to-do list!
