How about getting in touch with the person at the paper that places the orders with you and explain the situation to them and ask if they can do something internally to progress the payment. You can then arrange to meet up for a christmas drink and they can bring the cheque with them.
It's worked for me in the past - often it is easier to oil the wheels internally than go through the accounts department.
Having been in charge of accounts departments for longer than I care to remember, I know how easy it is to not focus on the smaller businesses, particularly coming up to christmas when the pressure is often on to focus on getting money in rather than paying money out.
