Hive charging extra to carry on using what I've already bought

when you say they have switched off support - do you mean they don't help with anything technically - or that it will no longer work at all?0

How old is your hub, and do you pay anything ongoing to Hive?JudgeDekker said:Hello. Just had an email from Hive saying that my Hub is quite old so they've switched off support for it, and if I want to carry on using the service that I paid up front for I need to buy a new hub. If anyone is thinking about signing up for Hive, remember that they always see you as a cash cow to be milked, not a customer.

I got the same email today. Hub is 8 to 10 years old, and they offer a brand new one for £30.
Your version of the Hive Hub is nearing the end of its lifecycle, which means it won’t work with our latest products and updates. So we’ll be discontinuing this model next year, on 1st August 2023.
But to keep your home as smart as ever, we’re giving you 50% off the new Hive Hub – so it’ll only cost you £30! And if you’re a Hive Live subscriber, you could get it for even less…

Sounds like you can just keep using what you've already got to me. They're just giving you the option to update if you want, and £30 isn't a huge amount anyway.0

I suspect that most people who wish to automate their homes with new technology factor in that inevitably the tech advances and old kit becomes obsolete and will need replacing from time to time. Just like smart phones, computers and the rest.
£30 to stay at the cutting edge seems reasonable.
Alternatively, why not rely on tried and trusted manual systems?
