I keep seeing the doom and gloom news about our energy and how bad it is going to be, so was getting worried. Yesterday I had my EDF bill (I pay by DD) 12 Jan - 12th July. Jan to May Day/night prices £59.02/£153.37 then 1 April - 12 July Day/night £70.13/£181.04 standing charges £18.15/£40.95 with VAT £26.13. Yes it has gone up but over the year I will receive £150 (already) £400 for the house, £200 as an OAP and another £300 and my HA has already given me £80 because of the EPC rating on the house. £1130 for the year, so if my maths is correct I can assume I won’t really be paying much for my energy this year. It will be handy to have the Pension payment back the year after, as the handouts for this year will not be paid to everyone the year after. I have not seen any stories airing about these payments really helping people. If I was on any kind of benefit I think I would have also had more money given to me £1500 for UC benefits etc? I know bad news stories sell papers but do wonder how many people are going to be really badly affected.

If you can tell us your annual usage in kWh then someone on here will be able to work out the cost for you.GibbsRule_No3. said:I know bad news stories sell papers but do wonder how many people are going to be really badly affected.
Some people have got lucky with handouts, most of us have not, ultimately that all has to be paid for as well, so less money for education, healthcare, fixing pot holes etc. and more national debt. It is a loss all round, however some people have been temporally protected from some or all of the short term cost.0 -

is that enough info?
Agree about everything else going up and having less to spend on things, it is just all the bad news about the prices but no one seems to mention the handouts.
We just don’t seem to think it is our responsibility to live lives to our financial ability and want everything given to us without making our own cutbacks. I’m sure the majority of the country can find savings, no one seems to want to put a jumper on, or turn a light off, or the heating down. £550 has been given to each house so finding the rise can have that £550 knocked off.Paddle No 21:wave:0 -

I am already pretty frugal re. energy (many on this forum won't consider doing themselves what I already do) so there is very little fat to cut.0
