Standing charge

Could pressure not be brought to bear in order for energy suppliers to reduce the standing charge?
If Government are unable to assist in other ways, surely this would be a small help?
It seems everything is against the general public and businesses generally.

  • Just to be sure, you do understand what the Standing Charge is for?

A lot of people are questioning it without understanding what it is which is why I ask. If you do, then I'm not sure what pressure you can put on them?

If the Standing Charge goes down then the unit rate would need to go up further. Additionally this would mean that low users would be being subsidised by average and high users.
  • I appreciate your response. We can't be having that!

Any suggestion where the money for the things the standing charges is collected for should come from instead?

What do you mean with government unable to assist? Most have already received the £150 council tax rebate, and almost every household with an electricity account will get £400 from October. In addition households on benefits, pensioners and disabled will receive further help, eg. £650 for households on benefits.
