Wrong electriicity supplier

Trying to demand that EON send you documentation is not going to work as, depending on the circumstances outlined by other posters, they will potentially have information showing that they were supplying you, due to issues with MPANs and the central database.danco said:Bulb doesn't have a fixed rate. I do have all my documents from them. Also various masses of emails.
Reed, I didn't ask for advice to put things right. I asked what I should require from Eon if they are claiming my supply is with them. They can't just bill me arbitrarily, they must give me some information as to why they think they are the supplier, and what I want to know is is what information I should ask for.
I am hoping they will tell me both the meter serial number and the MPAN that they claim they are supplying.
The original problem, dating back several years, is that my meter has been associated with the wrong MPAN (Eon confused plot number and postal address when they installed the meters on a newbuild block of flats). Bulb, who have been my supplier from shortly after I moved in, have at last managed to get meter and MPAN as they should be. But in the process they have wrongly told Eon that Bulb were not my supplier. I expect I will be able to convince Bulb that this statement to Eon was a mistake on their part, but even if they do tell Eon this, there is no guarantee that Eon will agree.
Would you rather have information that will allow you to put things right, arguing with people who have provided you with that information, or would rather have exactly what you asked for, but which will not help you?0 -
Dolor, you are exactly right. It's confusing, which is why I did not want to give the details.
Eon originally installed the meters. I live in flat 27 of my building, but the national database showed my meter assigned to the MPAN for flat 31. Unfortunately I did not realise this would be so difficult to solve. I changed my supplier to Bulb shortly after I moved in. Until recently they have been billing me for the correct meter but using the MPAN for flat 31. Our building owners had been trying to resolve this with Eon and Bulb for over two years with no success. I recently took over the issue myself, and have been dealing at high level with Eon and Bulb (director level complaint, rather than the more basic level). Eon made the helpful move of moving the MPAN of 27 to Bulb (that flat was unoccupied so this was not a problem) so that Bulb had charge of both MPANs and could get the national database changed. They informed me recently that this has now been done. Unfortunately the chap I was dealing with forget what he had been doing and somehow thought that my meter had been associated with the MPAN for 27 all along (rather than just for a week or two) and wrongly informed Eon yesterday that they, not Bulb, had been my supplier all along. I hope he will correct his error quickly, but even if he does there is still a considerable risk that Eon won't understand or accept his correction.
I don't know how clear this is, it confuses me even after dealing with it for many months.0 -

Eon cannot possibly claim to be my supplier unless they can provide me with information showing this. I am asking if anyone here can tell me what such information would be. I have loads of documentation that can prove any claim they might make is incorrect, what I want is to know what documentation they might provide.
See my response to Dolor. Eon can, I think, show that they were the supplier of electricity to the MPAN associated with flat 27 of my building. I live in flat 27, but due to an error by Eon when they installed meters, the meter in flat 27 has until recently been shown as belonging to a different MPAN.0 -
EON could have that information. As others have said it would be that the centralised database links a meter to your address, which is potentially tied to an issue with the MPAN. They could also have information under deemed supplier situations that would show that they supplied your address and as you were a resident at that address you were liable. In both cases demanding that they send you paperwork will not help.danco said:MattMattMattUK said:

That is the issue you need to resolve then, but if you say to them "tell me why you are my supplier", they will send you confirmation of the MPAN data, meters and the national database, which will show they were your supplier. The fact that you even said "I didn't ask for advice to put things right" seemed to indicate that you were more interested than an argument that actually resolving the situation.danco said:See my response to Dolor. You have actually answered much of my question. If Eon tell me both the MPAN and meter serial number at the time, then they will have provided me enough information to prove them wrong from other documentation I have. If they only told me the MPAN I would find it more difficult.
Of course if I am lucky, Bulb will correct their error in saying they weren't my supplier, and Eon will accept Bulb's correction. But I can't be sure of that.
