    My thoughts are:
is there any teaching/ helping happening or does everyone do their own thing?

If the latter then I think a meeting is called for

propose that some of the money is used to buy equipment that the majority will use

maybe some of the money is donated to a local charity.

But of course first you need to establish how much money is in their kitty!

I assume if the worst comes to the worst the dissidents could reform and book that free venue for themselves/ yourselves?
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Next time you hand over your £1 - "by the way, what is this money paying for?"

I have been on organised walks, where the leader makes it clear that he is earning a modest living from this. He has the work involved in answering questions, advertising, etc. He organises multiple walks each week. it’s all perfectly clear, and people joining the group know where their payments are going.

The problem with the OP’s craft group is that the organisers never said that they were keeping the £1s for themselves. Or, perhaps they did, right at the outset 18 months ago, and it’s been forgotten or the OP was not a member then. So, there’s not necessarily been any dishonest dealing, but a bit of clarification would be in order.

The OP could organise a rival group without any charge if she wants to.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
