Section 75 vs chargeback

I booked a walking tour to Italy with Exodus. The holiday departs 3rd September. I have had 4 emails saying it is not guaranteed due to insufficient numbers and a decision will be made whether to cancel no later than 8 weeks before departure, which was last Saturday. It is no longer on the website. I contacted them and was told it has been cancelled and the sales team would contact me to arrange a refund. I have heard nothing.
I am happy to wait a few days but I would like the money back to book elsewhere
Do I have to wait until the departure date before doing a chargeback or section 75 and which would be better?

Give them 7 days to do it. If not contact them again, and if not go down the chargeback route.
Make sure you do this in writing (probably by e-mail) as the bank will need evidence.
If Exodus have something else you'd like to do for a slightly higher price available for the same dates, it may be worth asking them to transfer your booking over, hopefully at no extra charge. I can't confirm if they will or won't do this, but it's worth a try and saves you some hassle.
Just for the sake of clarity (not that it really matters in this case but I will normally declare any potential conflict of interest), I have a majority shareholding in a company that is a supplier to Exodus, although none of these contracts touch Italy.💙💛 💔0 -

A refund within the UK is likely to take 5-7 working days in most companies/banks but you state its an Italian company and so its likely to take notably longer with the international banking.0 -

For your bank to consider a chageback or Section 75 they will want you to show that you have given Exodus the opportunity of refunding but they have failed. It is therefore probably too early to ask the bank to help. You do not have to wait until your departure, just be seen to have tried and failed to to get your refund.
Good luck.0
