Can they change holiday?

Hi all.
My Son and Daughter in Law have had their holiday to Egypt booked for about 12 months, they travel in approx 2 weeks time.  They booked with Hays Travel and it's an Easyjet holiday. The problem is since they booked there have been many complaints about the hotel, and the hotel has recently been changed from a 4* to a 3*  Easyjet have also pulled the hotel from sale because of problems/complaints.
My Son is also travelling with their 2 year old Son and are extremely worried about reports of bad hygiene, food etc.
Some people online have reported that they have been moved to different hotels.  Do my family have any rights to demand the same?
Thanks in advance.

they would be best to speak to Hays and ask them
If the star rating has officially been reduced this may be classed as a significant change

If it's an Easyjet holiday, and Easyjet have pulled it from sale, I would expect to be notified at some point.  Certainly speak to Hayes and get them to obtain further information from Easyjet.

I read that as pulled for new bookings not necessarily existing ones.
but agree definitely talk to Hayes.

packages can be changed in minor ways not major ones.
i don’t know if a hotel rating change is classified as major, but that’s an avenue to look at.

If it is in Hurghada then Easyjet has cancelled all the flights anyway so the whole holiday is gone, too many flights were delayed and the crew and plane were stranded overnight. I wouldn't go to Egypt expecting great food and the temperature at the end of July is probably not the greatest for anyone, least of all a 2 year old.

I agree, with temperatures routinely well over 30 degrees it means for younger children basically being confined indoors in the air con. I’ve been out to Egypt when it’s hit nearly 40 degrees, and my OH got sunstroke whilst sitting in the shade outside for probably less than an hour wearing sunscreen and a hat, spent a day or two feeling miserable and sitting by an air con unit not eating until he felt better. He also got the much talked about dodgy tummy from a 5* hotel , the problems of being a typical Englishman  abroad I suspect.
