Core 2 or Dual Core?

Just wondering how decent Dual Core processors are when compared to a Core 2 processor in laptops ? Dual Cores are cheaper, therefore i'm guessing they're older and probably not as good! Are they generally considered better than Celeron's and AMD Turions?

if you are talking about the p4s weilded together then avoid like the plauge. im sure anantech will have some app specific benchmarks but cant be bothered searching

AFAIK The Dual Core was the first set of multiple core processors released in the consumer mainstream.

The Core 2 duo are the next generation.

Its expected that a similar spec (i.e 1.6ghz dual core, 1.6ghz Core2duo) Core2duo offers approx 3-10% better performance than a Dual core depending on application

For a laptop, it makes absolutely no difference. Unless you're planning to do gaming, and you'll need to buy a laptop costing well over £1000 to get a decent one for that, then it's likely to be used for the internet and some office stuff. In most cases, the slowest CPU is more than up to the job.

core2duels/quades are the midrange and duel cores are the slowest in the intel range of duel cores,put that do not make them bad

Dual core is simply a term for a processor containing two CPUs in one.

Intel's dual core range, in order of release is: Pentium D, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo.
The Pentium D is the most "basic" dual core, just 2 P4s running together, not a very efficient design. The Core Duo was the first Intel "proper" dual core (mostly laptop only, more efficient than Pentium D etc) and then the Core 2 Duo is the second generation version for both laptops and desktops, faster, more power efficient than the Core Duo.

AMDs Athlon X2 is also a dual core processor.

If I was buying an Intel based laptop at the moment, I'd ensure it was Core 2 Duo.
