Cash or card?

Going to Germany. What's the latest advice on paying there in Euros or to use my debit card, or any other way?

Where in Germany?
Personally use my Starling debit card as fee free. Cards are fairly widely excepted, particularly in big cities, but not as commonly used (pre-covid anyway) as in the UK. Certainly wouldn't assume everywhere accepts cards, particularly outside cities, and so up to you if to carry some cash or just be selective where you go.0 -
A lot more places accept cards than in the past - Germany used to be heavily into cash payments. I was there last week and found that a lot of restaurants did not make it clear that they took cards. When asked most did but you had to go inside to make the payment. Nowhere I went to brought a machine out to the table.
