Currently on SSE standard variable tariff and looking at the Green Energy Sparkling Tariff to see if it would work out better for us. (Saw it mentioned thought I'd look).

We have just come out of a fix so our price jump feels much higher than it would normally

Welcome any advice as I've been looking at it for too long now (added up all my bills to then find the midata spreadsheet) and my brain has stopped working

Last year we used

8852.07 Gas
2939 elec

We currently pay quarterly DD. Going on a monthly DD at being held to high average payment ls scares me but I'm more worried about switching and the new company collapsing.

Welcome any guidance. Stick or switch & fix. Green Energy rates below

rough not knowing your current SVT rate region and these are best guesstimates for the Oct 2022 price cap as taken from

Edited for clarity although with 3600+ posts the OP knows their way round the board to see what's what 👍

Thankyou. These are my current rates with SSE. Sorry I didn't realise I hadn't added that in. It's Hampshire but I don't know what their regions are based on. Current rates are

It may be worth including a note in your calculations/comparisons, that your Oct 22 Cap, is based current best information, and is liable to change (which could be significant, e.g. if the change of PM leads to addressing energy costs).

Sorry to hijack the thread but I am currently on the Octopus standard rate. I have looked at Martin's guide and am struggling to follow it. I can't get on with average figures. I just want to know what the best guess is for October (I know it's crystal ball territory at the moment) for the standing charge and unit cap.
Is there an idiot's guide to help me to work out if it's worth taking the risk on this fix for me?
    Thank you.

here is October and Jan as well credit goes to @qrizb

Even MSE give these figures the likely thumbs up so all we can do is base the cap on these at this particular time

Really sorry, brain fog has completely kicked in now.
My current rates are E - .2786 per kw/h and .4786 standing charge
                                      G - .0736 per kw/h and .2722 standing charge.

Last 12 months use was E - 1500 and Gas 10,400.  I'm hoping to use less this year but am aware that it was a mild winter.

Currently on a £125 per month direct debit which seems to be on track if prices weren't going to shoot upwards - annual spend on the above figures is £1458 pa
The fixed tariff is giving me £174 per month - annual cost of 2085, give or take a few pence.

So if the current advice (subject to change etc)  is that anything within 55% could be considered, that's looking a possibility for me. Is that correct?

If you are looking at an Octopus fix it is unlikely it beats the predicted upcoming price cap rises in Oct then Jan 2023.

Have you researched the Agile tariff for electricity and the tracker v3 tariff for gas (you need a smart meter for Agile)

If you want to move away from Octopus then the best switch rate is with green energy

The figures I'm looking at for the £175 per month is the green energy one.
I have a smart meter but with the agile tariff and the gas tracker I was concerned I'd have to keep more of an eye on what is going on with them - not generally one of my strong points. I don't tend to run anything overnight so also depends on what their off peak hours count as.

What's the Green customer service like? I was with the other Green company but they went under.
