Credit Card Pre Authorisation

I use my local Asda for petrol & always pay by credit card.
A Santander World Mastercard to be precise.
An amount of £1 pre authorisation used to be 'held' on my card when I checked my transactions online.
That changed to £99 2 or 3 months ago & this used to be shown as 'held' when I checked online.
All fair enough, it always dropped off after 3 or 4 days.
The last 3 or 4 fill ups with fuel I have noticed that although the pumps says £99 pre authorisation
this £99 never appears on my card as it used to do.
Any ideas why this is happening ??

The likely answer is system upgrades.
Pre authorisation allows you to fill and as soon as you have finished the transaction completes and the correct amount is charged.1
