We have separate bins for garden waste and get charged for these.  One of the family that lives a few doors away has one of those and once a year we use that. The other times its grass and flower branches etc and we put those into a plastic sack and stick them at the bottom of our general waste bin and no one has said anything yet.

Whilst neighbouring local authorities have been introducing charges for garden waste in recent years our council has maintained that it should remain a free service.

We have a humongous green bin for garden/food waste which is collected every Monday, general waste & paper fortnightly and recyclable plastics, metal & glass every fourth week.Additional bins available for a nominal one off fee.

The recycling centre remains free,no appointments necessary but limited to 52 visits a year. Not yet come across anything they won’t accept.

The wheelie bin for general rubbish is every 3 weeks, garden waste (180 litre bin provided with the service) is every 2 weeks but food waste bins, crates for tins, glass, plastic, tetra paks, cardboard etc are all weekly along with sacks for paper waste - small electrical goods are also taken weekly

No limits or appointments required for domestic waste at the recycling centre, some items like Tyres are charged for.

We pay for a garden bin which is collected fortnightly. They run an annual scheme where you have a dated sticker so you can join at any time. They used to take food waste in the garden bin but don't anymore, it goes with general waste which is burned for energy.

Our tip you have to book but it's easy enough. DIY waste needs to be paid for. It took 4 attempts by a company to send me an unbroken toilet pan. When I pointed out our local council would charge me to get rid of the broken ones they refunded me the tip charge!  Annoyingly even things like a couple of rocks or bricks uncovered in the garden are chargeable.  They won't take paint at all, saying to give it to a re-use centre, which is all very well but if you've got gloss with rusty bits in from the tin, it's no use to anybody. We ended up letting it go solid and sneaked it into our general waste as we had no other option.

I've always been under the impression that any garden waste is to be composted or you require a separate garden waste bin, they are brown where we live

    From this guide

    https://www.divert.co.uk/how-to-dispose-of-your-garden-waste/

They say it depends on the council, however, it would ruin any chance of anything getting recycled/incinerated.

If I can't get my garden waste into a friend's 'green' bin- for which they pay- they have a much larger garden I'm afraid mine is hidden in dog food sacks or the like in the household bin. My terraced house only has a very small garden.
If I have a mega mega chopping session of montana, shrubs etc then I take bags to the tip but it's not open everyday.

Shame there is not a national charge / plan .
For example we can't put glass in our recycling bins- the only district council in this county but we can put in foil & plastic such as fruit punnets. You almost need a degree to learn the rules if you visit another area!!

I declined to join the paid garden waste service when they started charging, as I only ever used the green bin for woody or thorny stuff.  Everything else goes in the compost bins either in the garden or up the allotment.  I agree with the previous comment that compostable waste sent to landfill will NOT rot down nicely like it does in a compost bin.

Had to laugh at the comment about someone's tip which the staff keep tidy - I was thoroughly told off by the staff at ours for dropping leaves and tiny bits of twig when I took a car load of prunings, and directed to take a broom and clear up!
