Boost button - Electric water cylinder

Hope you can help.
I have an all electric flat.  My supplier doesn't supply Economy 7, so therefore the Economy 7 Horstmann cylinder runs on the usual day time rate whether you switch the timer on at offpeak or peak.
My question is, is the Boost facility the same price as the ordinary day time rate?

If you don't have E7 or any other time-of-use tariff, yes it is the same price.
Your hot water tank should have two immersion heaters, and the Boost should switch the upper one. Boost will give you half or third of a tank full of water, but will heat it in one half to one third of the time that the main supply to the lower immersion heater would take.

More details required, are both top & bottom elements the same rating (eg 3KW)
is the boost button just connected to the top element?

Yes. Because if you have single rate electricity, then that's the only rate it can be.

The system was set up to run on E7.  Run the main immersion on a timer overnight, using cheap electricity.  the Boost immersion is for emergencies, when you have run out of hot water, don't fancy a cold shower, and don't mind paying a few pence extra to get a hot shower.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Ectophile:  My supplier (and many others) no longer support E7 - so it is irrelevant regarding cost as to what time you put your timer on.  Obviously putting the timer on, say, 4am-7am means you get the hottest water at the time of day you need it for showers etc.  That is what it is currently set at, but there is no discounted E7 tariff.

Thank you for the replies so far.
