Do you normally pay when you book the surveyor or once the surveyor completes the job?

Hi, what’s the norm? 

Do you normally pay at the time of booking the surveyor or once the surveyor completes the job?

    We had to pay him at least five days before he went to carry out the survey.

    For my last survey it was after the survey was done, but before I received the report. Obviously no pay, no report.

    Usually during booking they collect payment. So prior to the survey.

    We always take payment after the inspection but before the report is issued, so long as we have signed terms of engagement.

    Mine did the survey I paid the they sent me the report.

    I've always paid up front.  I did get a refund once when the vendor refused entry as they'd changed their minds about selling.  Surveyor said that if he'd been allowed into the house (so one step forward) he wouldn't have been able to refund.
