Loft Boarding Cost

Hi, I am looking to get my loft boarded and am in the process of getting quotes from Loft Boarding companies. The quotes I received seem to be ranging from £2500 - £3000 so I am just trying to work out the difference if I buy the materials myself and get a tradesmen friend of mine to help me.
I have 50 m2 of loft space to board and will be using extra joists instead of loft legs. I also need to enlarge the loft hatch and get a ladder installed.
Can anyone guide me on what type of loft joists I would need and how to work out how many loft joists I would need for a 50 m2 loft? and also what would be a reasonable price to pay to enlarge a hatch?
The quotes I received for loft enlargement so far is between £400 to £550 from loft boarding companies which sounds expensive?
