Late tax return, but HMRC fault

    Again I may be wrong but perhaps no return was issued? Once a UTR is received a return can be filed.

    You can’t, for example, wait until 30th January, apply for a UTR, await a return to be issued and have three more months to file - without a penalty.

    You can.  You can't be fined unless 3 months have passed since the return is issued.

    Apologies - have major family problem  to sort - Have sent off appeal  as per form recommended  and will hope for best as at present it has had to be moved way down my list of concerns. Thanks for imput folks.
