Home insurance with lodgers

Hello,
I'm thinking of taking in lodgers and at the same time. Home insurance is due to renew.
Any ideas who would insure with lodgers? I've called a few well known brands and they don't seem to cover lodgers under home insurance or landlord insurance.
Just want some figures.
Thanks,

What cover exactly are you lookig for ?It's a long time ago since I (or rather my other half) had a lodger, but I seem to recall that they just had usual household insurance, but with the (I suspect now standard) proviso that theft would only be covered if there was evidence of a forcible entry. They also didn't cover the lodgers belongings, they had to take out separate contents cover.Just googled, and LV for one seem to adopt a similar approach - I think it's a standard home policy, but you'll presumably need to let the know you have a lodger as part of the application, and perhaps provide them with a namehttps://help.lv.com/home-insurance/what-to-consider-when-you-get-a-lodger

I want to cover my home and contents not the lodgers. They would need to get their own insurance if they wanted any.I guess main thing is to cover my home and contents against the normal things plus if a lodger was to steal/damage stuff?0

Isn't public liability insurance element important in this scenario.
Damage is a matter of security deposit or if excessive small claims.
Theft is a matter of full vetting, inventory and if it happens then making a report to police.1 -

They are my current home insurer. I don't use them for lodgers but they seem very helpful.1 -

The consequence of having a non-family member on the policy is normally that all theft claims must be accompanies with evidence of forced or violent entry thus not covering any theft claims against your lodger.0 -
Reading this thread with interest. I haven't had a lodger since before Covid, but I never had any insurance in the five preceeding years when I did. Nothing was ever stolen by a lodger and nothing of any value was damaged. However since lockdown I've got some fairly expensive electronics e.g. a smart TV and big smart speakers which are in the lounge. I'm wondering about getting a lodger again and I tended to prefer lodgers who stay for shorter periods, i.e. 3 months to 6 months. But I'm aware my stuff could be easily flogged off online - or simply pinched - by an entrepreneuring young lodger who'd already packed their bags, too!0

When I had a lodger I told my insurers and it was as others abive have said - the policy was fine but they made clear that it did not cover anything beloinging to the lodger, or theft by the lodger. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
