Am looking to renew my breakdown cover and have quotes from £25 per year (recover cover) to £119 (AA) for the same thing. Why such a big difference?
Thanks

Are you sure you're comparing the same level of cover? The devil's in the detail (for instance, one might give you European cover, one might be UK mainland only. Might not make a difference to you, but you'll usually pay extra for European cover, for instance). But different companies charge vastly different amounts for the same thing. Just a couple of weeks back my father-in-law came to renew his Green Flag cover, asked me to help him sort it out. He had a standard package, where they tow you to the nearest garage if they can't get you fixed at the roadside. He knew I have mine with Autoaid, where they'll take you anywhere you want to go. He wanted to upgrade to the same sort of thing. Turns out Green Flag wanted £130-odd to give him the "take you anywhere" cover, so guess what - I signed him up for Autoaid instead for less than half the price. So yes - make sure you understand what is and isn't included. But even for the same level of cover, you will get vastly different quotes (just like any other type of insurance, I guess).1

Varying level of cover.
Check reviews re which outfit fixes most cars on the roadside/drive, percentage-wise.
Who is the fastest?
From what I've read AA appears to be the best all-round thankfully never had to use them
but from what I've heard they are good.
Not sure if RAC vans still around.
Dad has a Merc, they have their own fleet of vans and those people are good as dad called one out when EML came on
and the car drove differently - the bloke that came out spent an hour, took for a test drive told dad what he felt it was and arranged for dad to car to be driven into nearest merc outlet and they'd fix it quick or give him a car. It was a Nox sensor and he got an almost brand new e class as his temp car and his car was fixed in three days waiting for part re nox and something else.
Not sure if others makers do the same.

One thing in the T&C’s to look out for is,
When you breakdown, If the car can’t be fixed roadside is the car taken to garage to be fixed same day.
If not to original destination or home ?.
Some companies say at our discretion.
Or in a reasonable time, what’s reasonable 1 hour or 24 hours.
With the AA on a family policy £172 for 4 people, Roadside, relay, home and onward travel.
Take of cashback of £88 it’s £21 each.
Lucky we all live at the same address 😜😎.0 -
..can't believe you would get much cover for £25??....as much as I hate the annual bartering with the AA I will stick with them as they seem to offer a good service, unlike the RAC who now seem to "contract out" their breakdown services and have some horrendous reports regarding their service..(can't remember the last time I actually saw an RAC truck oiut and about??)

Thanks all; for clarity I am comparing like with like.
Included in the policy are:- Nationwide Recovery
- Local Recovery
- Onward Journey
- Home Start
- Roadside Assistance
- Car Hire
- Relief Driver
- Overnight Accommodation
- Caravan/Trailer Cover

another possibility is the drivers/vehicles it covers.
Mine (autoaid) covers a couple for any vehicle.
Can you point us to the £25 policy as it's certainly piqued my interest.0 -

I don't see a £25 price when I click.
The "from" prices look good - for ONE vehicle under 20 years old.
Have you tried getting a quote? to see if it goes up on age etc.0 -
recovercover.com has absolutely abysmal reviews online. I doubt the £25 covers more than a basic call out. Their website is a mess.
Biggest complaint appears to be auto renewal - price always goes up and they make it practically impossible to cancel.
Stick with the AA I think!
