Health Club Gone into Adminstration

We were notified in April that our Health Club was going into Administration and closed it doors. We had a monthly Direct Debit which we then cancelled.
July; we received an email from a Debt Agency wanting the Direct Debit to be re-instated and pay the missing payments plus their charges.
If we are not able to use the services of the Health Club as its business has ceased trading why would we need pay the Direct Debit ?
The last thing we want is a default or CCJ but legally can they do this ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Even when our club was closing they still wanted us to pay for the 3 months notice to quit. I flatly refused on the grounds that it was not me that was quitting but them not providing a service. No come back at all on that.
The only reason I can think that you might need to pay is that if you made your last DD in April but the club didn't close until end of June or something. In that case I would think you may need to pay 2 months but that would go to the club administrators and not include any charges someone has decdied to add without advising you. Did anyone at any time prior to this say you still owed money? I believe that should have happened before it went to a debt collector.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Not really in the right forum, but anyway...Read your contract, if you agreed to pay an annual fee, but were allowed to make the payments by instalments each month they may well have a right to receive the missing payments and once paid, you would join the unsecured creditors for the balance of your unusable membership...0

As others have said what does your contract with them state?0
