DVLA - Tax paid via DD

Hope this is not a stupid question. I'm paying for the tax on my motorhome monthly via direct debit. I have now sold the motorhome. Will the DVLA automatically stop the direct debit as they will receive the log book tear off bit with the details on or do I need to contact them separately? Thanks for any help with this.

Did you sell privately or into Trade? If privately then (I believe) YOU need to notify DVLA about the change of owner - you can usually do this online.Jenni x1

If you sent off the change of keeper slip DVLA will cancel the DD but it may take several months for paper transactions to be processed.

Was sold to a dealer and he will send everything off. Thanks for the responses.Debt free and Keeping on Track0

Personally I would still cancel the DD myself. I've had previous cars where the DD was taken and eventually refunded but cancelling prevents that.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Yes, I am going to cancel the DD myself as I have also been bitten before!Debt free and Keeping on Track0

Never trust the dealer to complete the transfer, many will do it correctly but it is your responsibility and any fallout - parking and speeding fines etc - will be on you. It takes 2 minutes to do it on line but if you have given the whole V5 to the dealer it is too late.

Don't just cancel the DD at the Bank. Cancel with the DVLA first, check there is no outstanding debt and then cancel at the Bank end. This applies to all direct debit instructions.jimjames said:Personally I would still cancel the DD myself. Cancelling the direct debit at the Bank doesn't mean you are no longer liable to pay for the service.0
