Turtle Doves look lovely. I'll keep my eyes open for their sales and maybe, I'll buy myself a Christmas present.
  • Agree with -taff and Jellytots- wrist and leg warmers are essentials. Shrunken cashmere or wool jumpers from charity shops - sometimes in their bargain sections- are great. Just cut off the arms and that’s it. Sleeves also make a good neck warmer - join the sleeves at the armholes and they go over the back of the neck and the wrist ends tie nicely in front. I also only wear shoes in the house - the thicker soles and leather keep my feet warmer than slippers.
Keep on prepping everyone and stay safe.

I have a fair few oddments in my yarn stash and will be knitting wrist and leg warmers for the winter months.  Bodily wise, I'm usually warm enough but my hands and feet can get rather cold when sitting in the evenings, so they'll be a useful addition to winter preps.  Just need to find patterns that I'm sure I have somewhere but, if I can't find them, I can improvise!   :)

I also have two pieces of wool fabric in my stash that will make a couple of shawls - just need to trim to size and hem.  I'm turning into my grandma!

Or ponchos - they don't keep slipping off your shoulders and you don't have to remove them if you walk around.

Good idea GaleSF63, I might try that.  Thanks.

  • I like the idea of leg and wrist warmers. I see that Turtle Doves did neck warmers too. That's a good idea for when I wear a jumper without a high neck. May be easy to make? All of those could be made so that they match or tone with my getup for the day. Thanks for the instructions on how to make them. Once the charity shops put their autumn/winter stuff out, I'll have a go at making some and perhaps use the scraps to make a shawl or a throw/cushion covers for the sofa. This thread is brilliant.

I normally make myself a neck warmer each year, just knit or crochet a bit rectangle, sew the ends together, presto, neck warmer. I've experimented with different lengths, widths etc, but my current favourite is one made out of soft wool and quite long so I can wear it as a snood as well. I hate my neck being cold and I blummin love my neck warmers.
Thanks. I think that sounds easy enough. Determined to have a go.
