Could anyone direct me towards a Cheese and Onion bread recipe for a breadmaker? I'm not being very successful looking for one online.

I would like to make cheese and onion bread in my breadmaker. The recipe says use onion granules. Can I use fresh onion instead? If so how? Thanks.0

Hi ..
If you want to use fresh onions..i would chop them as fine as you can, fry gently and then cool and remove as much moisture as you can.... you may still find that you get a slightly doughier bread where the onions are.... but it should still taste lovely..
When i make my onion bread instead of dried onions i use those onion crispies that you get to sprinkle on salads as they have amuch stronger glavour than plain dried-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Can't find onion granulesin shop at moment so am trying salad sprinkles as suggested. Thanks Mrs M.:beer:0

Hi pmorrisjones
The tastiest bread that I make is one with caramelised onions. You'll need about three decent sized onions for a 2lb loaf. I make mine by hand but you could adapt it to a breadmaker.
Use your basic recipe in the bread machine but set to making dough rather than cooking it in the machine. I've tried baking it in the machine and although it still works the onions get chopped to bits and the flavour isn't the same.
Slice the onions very finely and cook very slowly on a low heat with a good glug of worcester sauce until you have a brown gooey mix.
After the first rise removed the dough from the machine, knock back the dough and mix in the onions.
Let it rise again and then top with cheese and pop into the oven for about 20 minutes or until the bread looks cooked and sounds hollow when tapped.
Tip: when adding cheese to your bread mix also add a little mustard powder (about half a teaspoon) as it brings out the flavour of the cheese. Also, as cheese contains fat you may not need so much oil or butter.
