no - properties went up more than the small DC pension pot (which went up more than I expected but still not as much)0

I find rent often more expensive than mortgage payments, and it's forever rather than paying off a mortgage.
There will be some will choose to rent and have surplus cash to put towards their pension, but I'm not sure it would be much of a comparison to think lifetime rent and putting a large amount into a pension (like I say, you're not even likely to have any more spare cash by renting anyway), against paying a mortgage off.
Did you have some figures in mind?
People are going to want bigger rentals in the same way they'll want bigger houses/ mortgages.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*1 -
Other problem is retiring when renting and getting an appropriate problem with security etc1

My mortgage is 20% less than my rent was - and that was on a much smaller house. To rent the house I own it would be about 35% more than my current mortgage. So I am in a better position to invest more in pensions or whatever now than I ever was renting.
Also, all being well, I'll have paid off the mortgage before retirement, so my pension won't need to stretch as far than if I also had to fund rent costs out of it.
