Pergola metal Vs wood

Options
I'm in the market for a pergola.  I'm torn between aluminium framed ones with louvered roof Vs wood pergolas with solid roof (roof felt)
Anyone installed lately and any recommendations

I can't speak for the wooden ones but we bought this one this year: https://www.harbourlifestyle.co.uk/products/pergostet-3m-x-4m-led-lighting-grey?variant=41982771855619&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_term=&utm_campaign=UPP_TRO_HST-453a42fb-0837-44c7-b206-851e2dbdd354&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=5580981062&hsa_cam=17320128424&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=CjwKCAjw2f-VBhAsEiwAO4lNeNlV7euH5qWgWRiIbu0d4EcfsfrRAZPqceD1FNQugipahkNY4kbQEBoCESQQAvD_BwE

And it's great, although it does make the room it's next to very dark, even with the louvred roof open. We've built a bar/office at the end of the garden and have placed this directly outside the bar side, so I don't mind it being a bit dark. You obviously don't have to have it right next to a building though, and we only have two open sides whereas if you will have three, it might not be so bad. But I imagine a wooden one would cause a similar issue anyway?

The lights are a nice touch and work well, and it keeps everything bone dry underneath which I love (although it's not supposed to be closed in wind and heavy rain, so in winter we will store furniture inside and leave it open). We're doing a lot of building work at the moment so we haven't put the sides on yet, but I reckon we'll use them a lot, and it should enable us to use the bar and outside area all year round hopefully 😁 we've certainly had good use of it already for shade and shelter while the building work is going on!

It looks good too, and aesthetically suits our garden more than a wooden one would. I think it really boils down to what look suits your outside space and you prefer, and ultimately what you plan to use it for 😊

Fantastic thank you. I was looking at the Pergolux, titan and galaxy, this is better due to integrated blinds.
I'm a bit unsure how the bolts for the feet are supposed to be installed

Jeez!  For that price (this being MSE!) if you are going for the industrial look, you could just site an old iso container and knock the walls out!  :)

Given all its features, I thought it was surprisingly good value.

It's a sleek modern design, so in the right environment should also look amazing. Not 'traditional', tho', if that's your bag.

    Nice.

Yep!  I definitely go for the traditional/rustic!  Although I do recognise that the iso container is a design classic!  :)

I'm not trying to disparage the OP's choice in any way - their house, their money!  I'm sure they will get many hours of happy use out of it and there are many worse ways of spending that sort of cash!
  • Thank you all for the input.
Its taken me a long time to decide.  Hopefully will turn out how its supposed to be!

And I still love ours! With the blinds down and the firepit table we also bought we can use it all year round 😁

I hope you love yours too ispookie666

Hubby bolted ours to the patio. We have limestone slabs so he just put two in each leg, and not four. It was a bit tricky as there's a risk of cracking the slabs but it went OK. And it's so heavy it shouldn't go anywhere 🙈  in heavy rain/wind you're supposed to open the louvred roof as well
