Hi i am am at the end of my wits and have no idea what to i can not find help anywhere. I was with Eon and they were really good but they changed to Eon Next who are rubbish. Its been 8 months since they took over they only read my electric smart meter twice so i was already fed up with them. My fixed rate with them ends on 4th August 2022 and they asked me to change it. I wasn't expecting the ridiculous high price way more than predicted by yourselves. I currently pay approx £1400 a year on my fixed rate. The variable rate offered is £2430 a year. There Next Online v15 rate is £3478 and there Next1Year v13 rate is £3886 a year. I can't even go to another company either even though Eon Next are rubbish. I am at my wits end as there doesn't seem to be much help out there at the moment. Any help would be really appreciated. I don't even know the government help works for us or my Mother in Law who lives alone, none of us know how much we will get and can't find out either.

If you have an electricity energy account the £400 will start to be paid to that in October for potentially 6 months so £66.66 a month.

Eon Next v15 is one of the fixes left worth consideration in the following article

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/-are-there-any-cheap--fixed-energy-deals-currently-worth-it--/

As for fix rates, it's a very poor market out there for fixes when your current fixed rate ends. They all dried up a few weeks back.

EDF and Octopus....maybe Green(no confirmation of this one) are taking on new customers but you have to move to EDF or Octopus standard variable price capped rate first before either being offered a fix (which may not be better than Eon Next it is likely to be worse) there are other tariff options with Octopus such as tracker and agile tariffs.

I know the numbers seem ridiculous, but the variable rate is the same one that over half of the UK is currently paying and, as Mstty says, Next Online V15 is one of the best fixed rate deals that MSE have been able to find currently on offer.
This, sadly, is what energy costs now - and everyone's variable rates are expected to rise by around 50% in October, so £2400/yr will become £3600/yr.

Thanks for the info Mstty, QrizB and Spoonie_Turtle. The rate i said was Variable was what they call NextFlex a flexible tarriff but still sounds like a Variable one to me. Which is still more than the £700 variable rate i was told it would be when my fixed rate ends on 04/08/22.
I will look at that Gov website now as i couldn't find so thanks for that Spoonie_Turtle

The £400 will be credited to your electricity account automatically, from October.

The official info we have so far is here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cost-of-living-support/cost-of-living-support-factsheet-26-may-2022

There really is no substitute for doing the sums yourself. I have just switched from Next Flex to Next Online V15. I calculated that in next 3 months this will cost me £117 more than staying on Next Flex. Using E.ON's estimates for my annual consumption (3385kWh electricity, 13425kWh gas) I calculated that 12 months energy at Next Online 15 rates would cost 43.33% more than at the current Next Flex rates. I then looked at my actual annual consumption for 365 days to 28 June (3286kWh electricity, 12324kWh gas) and worked out what that would cost for the next 12 months, result was £2,975. Subtracting my current credit balance and dividing the result by 12 gives the amount I will offer to pay them monthly. In fact their new monthly amount does not cut in until after one more payment at the Next Flex DD amount, so I will wait for that to happen, subtract the new credit balance from £2,975 and divide by 11.
All the numbers are eye-watering. In July-21 my electricity unit rate was 11.7p/kwh. In Jan-22 it was 19.18p/kWh. In June-22 it was 26.69p/kWh, and now on Next Online V15 it is 40.3p/kWh (All figures exclude VAT) That is a 244% increase year on year. Now that's inflation.

You don't need to go onto a fixed rate but they might not tell you that. The numbers you've quoted are irrelevant really, the important part is the unit rates for gas & electric and how much you use. Reducing use will get the spend down so it's worth reviewing everything that consumes power and see if it can be turned off or switched to a lower power option like LED bulbs.
