Parkingeye fine

Hi, so sorry to post this but I'm struggling with the newbie thread and panicking about a fine I've received.

Back in 28th May i met with a friend and visited a market at Tynemouth metro station. I arrived parked at the station and the sign stated up to 1 hour free so went round the market to see what it was like and decided to stay. I went on the paybyphone app before the 1 hour was up and paid for 3 hours so we could have a leisurely look round and lunch.

I then received a fine from Parkingeye dated 2nd June stating I hadn't paid and I stupidly went through their appeals sending them a screen grab of my payment before reading anything on here.

I've since had a rejection letter to my appeal stating "the tariff purchased was insufficient did not cover the entire duration of the stay. The terms and conditions and tariffs are
outlined on the signage which are on display throughout the car park." I've found a photo of the signage from an old thread posted by someone else so not sure if it's the most up to date but I can't get back to the car park due to work.

They have provided very dark and cropped pictures of the front and back of my car but with no context and said I arrived at 10:33 and left at 14:30.  I paid for parking from 11:26 to 14:26.  The car park was packed and it took a bit to get out having to wait for people crossing or getting in and out of spaces so I may have left the actual car park a few minutes late but didn't think that would be an issue.

I'm now in a panic because I know I've not followed your guide and I don't know if I can now. I cannot afford a £100 fine. They've offered to reduce it to £20 if I pay within 14 days of the appeal rejection (30th June) but it's still a lot to me, especially considering the amount they charge for parking.

I'm sorry for the long post but I'm on my own and in such a stress about the whole thing and been sobbing trying to get my head around all the different procedures.

If you could offer any help I'd be so grateful

I have to say I would pay the £20 because you can't win this at POPLA, and ParkingEye sue.

Could you please show us a photo of the letter offering to settle at £20?

Redact your name, address and the heading with your numberplate and PCN ref.

I would like to use it as a clear example that if £20 is sufficient to settle a PCN then the proposed £25 discount is indisputably 'commercially viable'.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I agree with @Coupon-mad, pay the £20 now for peace of mind and the avoidance of months of work and worry because I too see no other 'out' for you. Go the full distance to a court hearing and you're looking at around £200 if you lose. Then you say to yourself, "Why did I put myself through all that when I could have killed this off months ago for £20?"

Dry your tears, send them a cheque, get on with the rest of your life without this rubbish hanging over you. Take a positive from this - learn to always read private parking signs, comply with the requirements, and never get one of these nasty tickets ever again.

PS - don't forget to scan that letter for Coupon-mad, she is working closely with Govt in bringing some sense and balance into the world of private parking, and a copy of your letter will be helpful in that task.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
