SSE to OVO False policy of Monthly billing replacing Quarterly Billing !

As a Loyal (regular paying) SSE customer for over 40 years, I was shocked to be told (via email and online chat from OVO) that "we do not do quarterly billing"! So they have refused to give me an option to continue to pay quarterly bills (as I have been doing for 40 yrs +)!

However, there is a discrepancy in their online help/info about this policy. They clearly state that there are alternatives for customers, yet I am being told that I cannot have my bills quarterly! This is conflicting information and this is extremely frustration and wrong for customers.

OVO's own website states : "We send your bill monthly or quarterly, depending on your account settings – this includes a breakdown of all your charges and payments."

The same page, in the "What is a billing period" section also states : " (billing periods can also run by calendar month,or quarterly, too)"

I cannot post internet links yet as I am a new member, but to find the page :
1. In main Home of OVO website, click on "Help and support" at top right of page.
2. In the browse by categories section on right : click on "Bills and payments"
3. Select : Billing and statements/How billing works

They do say that they can do quarterly billing, but that is still with a monthly DD payment...
If you are trying to pay quarterly, that is not something they offer...

  • Heads Up - all former SSE Customers transferred to OVO. Here are copies of two screenshots from OVO forums. As a former SSE customer transferred to OVO you are legally entitled to continue paying your bill on a quarterly basis if you did so previously. I have been in touch with OVO myself trying to sort this out. Their call centre staff are unable to help (assuming you can get through). The 'chat' adviser I exchanged texts with told me that there was no-one available from the appropriate team. I have emailed their customer service dept. The two screen shots below were taken recently. The actual web pages have now disappeared. If I receive a response I will post an update.

I've just moved to an OVO fix (from SOLR British Gas) to get nice clear monthly billing.  My GFs flat has been on OVO for 2 years and the billing is excellent (especially. with automatic smart reads)
My GFs meter has just stopped sending readings but hat is a different issue, but you can still do regular manual readings, get one in by the 26/27th and the billing stays accurate.

Has anyone got any further with this?

I've just been moved over to OVO monthly, and CS have stated quarterly billing is not an option.

The 'How billing works' page still has quarterly billing as an option.

The energy ombudsman won't get involved unless the supplier has looked at the complaint for 8 weeks and it's reached deadlock..so I guess I have to raise a complaint then with OVO first. Has anyone tried this route?

Did they send you an information booklet a while back in the post - I am sure the copy I received (currently inaccessible) stated quarterly would continue if that is what you were on before.

I was annoyed at first but now prefer giving a reading online and paying monthly (by bank transfer) now I am in the swing of it and giving the current increases (My billing date is the 15th of the month)
