DVLA Uncashed Cheque After A Death

Options
Hi, sadly my husband recently passed away. DVLA has sent a refund cheque to him but his account has been closed down. I am his wife and executor of his will. What happens in this situation?  Any advice would be good.
Thanks in advance.

My first thought would be to talk to the bank that had his account and see what they say.  I'm sure they have come across this situation numerous times, same as with bounced cheques etc.  Might be best to talk to either their bereavement team or to someone actually in a branch rather than get some random newbie who won't know what script to look at.

Sorry for your loss.  There's always so much to sort, financially and emotionally.

I had the same when dealing with my father's death and car. There is a form to complete and return along with the cheque. They will then send a new cheque in your name.

Actually looking at their website I may have just returned the check and sent a letter. See bottom of this page https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-refund

Closed or frozen? If it's simply been frozen at this stage then the bank can still accept the cheque. I had the same and I simply sent the cheque to the bereavement team who added it to the account.

Sorry for your loss. Do you have an executor account which includes your husband's name (e.g Mrs J executor of Mr J)? If so then you should be able to pay the cheque in there. The suggestion from @shiraz99 may work but when my mum died Lloyds told me that all payments into and out of her account would be stopped, which would have included paying in cheques.

Lloyds let my husband pay a cheque made out to his deceased dad, whose a/c with them had been closed, into an a/c in his own name there. Only about £100 & they didn't seem overly concerned about allowing it.

Made us wonder whether he could have just stuck it in the cheque paying-in machine with his own debit card anyway.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

I think they probably would have meant allowing you to pay in cheques etc, however the bank themselves, particularly their bereavement department will still be able to do it on your behalf.
