Tax Disc Holders, why do they not stick ?
I have bought 2 different silver aluminium tax disc holders. it had little sticky jellies that went around the edges. Although a windscreen isn't exactly straight, its curved. They just fall off. Ive wasted money and gone back to the manufacturers one. I want an aluminium that sticks to the curved windscreen ? Any ideas ?
Thanks

I know this sounds silly but did you clean and dry the area where you were putting the disc? I've got an aluminium one and it's been there for about 3 tax discs now and still sitting nicely stuck on.0

The best tax disc holders are the really cheap card ones. They stick. Anything else will fall off eventually, even if you clean the glass really carefully. Anodised metallic disc holders look stupid anyway - why do you need 6 fake allen screws to hold a piece of paper in place?Happy chappy0

Some of these come with small extra "packing " pieces which compensate for the curve if it's too much for the normal sticky "jelly". They seem to work well with these. Like previous poster, I've had one fitted for two years now without a problem. In fact I'm wary of trying to remove it in case a bit of glass comes away with the adhesive!
As mentioned make sure the glass is thoroughly clean and dry, probably better fitting when it's warmer too.
Whether they look "stupid" or not is a matter of personal taste, unlike the cheap card ones which do look stupid.:D;)0 -
Try cleaning the grease off the glass using white spirit or similar.0

Last year I had got a free tamper proof holder which was nice and neat but obviously aint reusable so this year I have a nice small saltire one advising you to "keep our roads litter free", also have a matching air freshner
Can't say I'm a huge fan of the alloy metal style holders for cars - if you want this look get a motorbike and a real metal holder0 -
girlfriend has the aluminium one with the countersunk cap screws,it looks great and has been there for alomst a year now,but changing the tax disc is a bit of a pain.
i opted for one of the magnetic ones off ebay,it looks ok and stick no problem and easiest tax disc change ever. just slide it off and the slide it back on again.
no loosing screw or allen keys....work permit granted!0 -
only one i can get to stick is a london congestion charge one i got for free on here ages ago, i found they usually stick on when new but once you have to change the disc they fall offthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
